Barbara's Age- 18
Barbara's History- Barbara Gordon wasn’t necessarily from Gotham City, but she had heard of the legend surrounding The Batman while growing up. While taking an interest in not only the environment, but gymnastics early on in life, it took a turn for the worst when Barbara lost her mother, and she was left under the care of her father James Gordon. Sometime after they’d moved to Gotham City, the newly appointed Commissioner Gordon hoped to work together with The Batman in order to make the city a safer place for his daughter to grow up in. Sometime after Barbara had enrolled in Gotham High School, she befriended Pamela Isley, who shared an equal love for the environment. The two of them became close friends, each calling the other ‘Red’ as a nickname regarding their similar hair color. Barbara’s father disliked the fact that his daughter had become friends with Pam, as he’d checked up on her past record-she’d spent 3 months in Juvenile Hall, with an extra 5 months for damaging industrial work places involving gardening and chemicals. Unfortunately for Barbara, her father was right in one aspect-Pamela had been keeping her illegal activities from her friend, which included her arrangements with Temblor.
Barbara and Pam started work on certain ‘green keeping’ missions not too long after the latter had hired Temblor, which meant protesting the toxic environment that was poisoning the plants in Gotham. The ways they were going about it were quite radical, but their message was getting through-in a sense. Regardless, Barb did feel like at times they were going a little bit too far but soon enough their meetings grew stronger as they continued their trek across Gotham toward more and more companies. The two of them soon broke into a large office building, sprayed the CEO of Chlorodyne with his own fertilizer and demanded that they stop dumping waste into the water. After liberating a bonsai and delivering said message to the CEO, Barb and Pam ended up getting found out by Commissioner Gordon and picked up, Pam being driven home in the process. Shortly after they’d dropped Pam off, Jim expressed his disappointment in his daughter, saying that she was risking her future when it came to getting a shot at the Olympics. Barbara ran into Pam once again, and it was around this meeting that she found out that her friend was waist-deep when it came to walking the path of the Dark Side. Pam was hurt when Barbara tried to reason with her, saying that she’d thought they were like two peas in a pod. Unfortunately, it was around then that Temblor met up with the two girls and attempted to attack them. Pam and Barbara both made tracks for the Chlorodyne building, the former having quite a head start while the latter had protected herself before following shortly after. If it hadn’t been for the timely appearance of The Batman, Pam might’ve gotten caught. The Dark Knight impressed Barbara with his skills and ability, but when she realized that Pam had gotten caught under a pile of debris, which was very close to a container that was filled with mutagenic fertilizer, Barbara tried to free her friend; she could’ve gotten it done, if a shockwave attack from Temblor hadn’t blown her into a wall, which stunned her momentarily. Sadly, when she had regained her senses, that was when the container spilled open and plummeted down on Pam. Barbara cried out for her friend, but The Batman kept her from going to try and help; this time, going to help might’ve resulted in both of them getting soaked.
Barbara’s father was sympathetic in this case, as he did understand that Pamela was rather close to his daughter and knew that she didn’t deserve to have this happen to her. Unfortunately, when Poison Ivy made her debut, it prompted Barbara to walk her own path-as Batgirl, though at first she would call herself Batwoman. Once she first stepped into the limelight and crossed paths with her former friend, Ivy would comment on Batgirl’s arrival; Barbara protested to that, saying ‘FYI-it’s Batwoman.’ The Batman himself even stated, in no uncertain terms, that ‘there’s no room for a Batgirl in Gotham,’ and Barbara agreed, only adding that it was ‘Batwoman, as in-I’m a grown woman and don’t need to listen to you!.’ The Batman then said that for her own safety, if she wouldn’t listen to him, he’d have to tell her father and called Barbara by name. Barbara pretended like she didn’t know what he was talking about, but after a moment or two, she showed her displeasure at having her identity found out.
“Aww-dude! You just broke the superhero secret identity code!” Once she returned home, Barbara contemplated quitting her role as a superhero since she’d failed to stop Ivy, her aim needed work and she’d blown her secret identity, her world was rocked again-to it’s very core-when she found out that her father had been kidnapped by Poison Ivy.
“I’ll quit tomorrow.” Barbara returned to the mean streets of Gotham as Batgirl once again, and once she’d caught up with Batman and Ivy, she soon found out that she had to fight against the mind-controlled Dark Knight! (Throughout the majority of Barbara’s debut and appearance as Batgirl, Barbara was monologueing every now and then at various points.) Barbara then kicked Batman into the water that was surrounding them, which helped to free Batman from Ivy’s spores.
“Hello-remember me? Plucky sidekick?”
“Sidekick, huh?”
“Annnd, he’s back.” Despite some interference from Ivy, Batgirl was able to save her father and prove herself to be a worthy sidekick in the process.
“I uh, owe you my thanks, Batgirl.” Gordon replied to which Batgirl protested once again before giving up.
“It’s Batw-forget it. Batgirl it is.” As the Commissioner’s glasses had been destroyed, the only thing he could see concerning Barbara as she departed after The Batman was her hair.
“Another red? Huh. What are the chances…?”
The Batman admitted that not every child got the chance to rescue their parent, after Batgirl asked if he was still going to tell her father, and explained that he figured the Commissioner would be proud of her if she decided to tell him. Batgirl smiled and took that as a ‘no.’ Barbara was considered a freelance partner, not given full sidekick status even though she’d helped out on a few important cases The Batman was working on-when Gearhead made his debut, Batgirl hijacked the BatCycle in order to help out, but needed help herself when the villain took over the vehicle with his nano-technology; when The Joker had stolen Bane’s power infusion module, otherwise known as his fuel pump, from Gotham PD’s Evidence Lockup, Barbara was convinced at first that she had to bulk up so The Batman wouldn’t have a weakling for backup, but realized during this mission that you could use brains to beat brawn-of course, this was after she’d gotten to use The Batman’s Batrobot suit, which she called a muscle suit. The Batman gave her official sidekick status and allowed her ‘in the loop’ after she’d singlehandedly prevented Maximillain Zeus from completely dominating Gotham as it’s ‘god,’ by taking down his aircraft from within and then successfully piloting it into Gotham Harbor. During the beginning of the Fourth Season, Batgirl was surprised and displeased about the fact that The Batman had taken on another young partner-Dick Grayson, known as Robin-and even allowed him to see the Batcave! It was then that Bruce actually took Barbara to the Batcave and revealed who Dick was. Seconds later he also revealed who Barbara was, much to her chagrin. During this mission against the Penguin and his own team of cohorts, known as Team Penguin, Batgirl and Robin had to learn to work together as a team, despite their initial spats against each other. They proved that they really could work together, as well as receive acknowledgement concerning super-villains, when they did their best to prevent Black Mask from escaping the prison and then, when he eventually did escape, managed to recapture him once again. Their brother/sister relationship even continued into the future, as it was shown in the episode “Artifacts.” Barbara, now going by the codename Oracle, was confined to a wheelchair in the year 2027 and manned the Batcomputer like it was a second set of arms for her. Naturally, Dick Grayson now went by the codename Nightwing, but both Oracle and Batman occasionally refer to him as Robin. During the finale of the Fourth Season, Batgirl and Robin disobeyed orders on advice from Alfred after Batman told them to stay behind while he went to Wayne Industries to try and stop an alien invasion-said aliens were known as the Joining-from completing it’s task of destroying their world. When confronting their mentor on the subject of his orders, Batgirl announced that they quit, were freelance partners and didn’t have to listen to him anymore. The Batman then said that it was never about the fact that he didn’t need them-truthfully, he didn’t want to lose them. They had become like his second family, as well as partners.
During the Fifth and final Season, Barbara hadn’t been around as much when it came to protecting Gotham as Batgirl; it wasn’t because she didn’t want to, since she enjoyed being one of The Batman’s partners. It was because she’d graduated from Gotham High School and was now attending college at Gotham University. On the missions in which she was featured in, Barbara was able to help out concerning Firefly’s unexpected transformation into the deadlier Phosphorus, helped out when the Joker had taken control of a train and was using the lights on said train to hypnotize his victims into robbing for him, and she played a major part at her own school when she and Batman protected her campus from three individuals who had emulated themselves after Kirk Langstrom’s previous efforts to become the Man-Bat, yet their ringleader had admired The Batman’s own courageous efforts but had chosen the wrong path.
“This is where we call in the Justice League-right?”
“For a monkey?! They'd throw me out in two seconds!”
During the Series Finale, Batgirl was asked by The Batman to provide backup for himself, Robin and the Justice League when it was discovered that the Joining and Hugo Strange had teamed up to enact revenge on Earth, and all Strange had wanted was the vast knowledge of the universe. Once Batgirl had met up with the Justice League, she helped out when it came to defeating the robot duplicates of the Justice League members who had superpowers; she’d even saved Superman’s life when things had gotten hairy for a time. Ultimately, she was instrumental when it came to defeating the Joining once and for all along with help from the Martian Manhunter-regardless, it was a team effort the entire way through. Afterward, Batgirl and Robin got to go up to the Justice League base and were ecstatic about the visit, claiming that they would be a part of the Junior Justice League and that they had a new clubhouse; The Batman mildly rebuked his young partners, but did enjoy the moment with them-they had saved the Earth once again.
It wasn’t too long after this that Barbara would find herself involved in another adventure-one that would take place in the Digital World…
Barbara's Personality- Barbara’s a young high school teenager, who eventually grows up to become a college freshman, who has a strong will, is quite stubborn as not only her father but The Batman would agree with, and has wit-described as ironic wit, but wit nonetheless. When she first saw The Batman in action, she was inspired by his bravery and dedication to protect Gotham City. To that end, she became Batgirl as previously mentioned in the hopes that she could become his sidekick. The Dark Knight hadn’t liked that and didn’t want to take on a partner. Depressed that her first outing hadn’t gone to her liking, Barbara had considered hanging up the cape and cowl but when she found out that her father had been kidnapped by her former friend, now villain in Poison Ivy, she became Batgirl full-time and was able to save her father. Barbara respects and admires what her father and The Batman do, which is why she seems eager to be his sidekick. Barbara’s obviously quite smart, as she was able to deduce The Batman’s secret identity at one point but as Bruce didn’t remember that he was The Batman at the time, she soon dropped the idea. She cares about the environment as does Pamela, but she didn’t want to go to such extreme measures when it came to Pamela’s more radical ideas.
A part of Barbara had hoped that Pamela would get better, as revealed in issue 18 of The Batman Strikes!; she’d gone to Arkham Asylum along with her father because she’d wanted to talk. Pamela, in the middle of intensive training, wasn’t in the mood to discuss anything at the time. Gordon apologized to his daughter but stated that this was how it had to be for Pam-to be confined to a constructed room, not having any contact with any plants, or as Barbara stated, the outside world, which included all her friends. The Commissioner had even described his daughter as being impetuous as well as stubborn, traits that he himself seemed to have. Barbara is also shown to be jealous, or at least have a knack for sibling rivalry, as it was shown in the episode Team Penguin-Batgirl hadn’t expected to see Robin, aka Dick Grayson, alongside The Batman, actually working in tandem with him on moves they’d studied together, or having shown him the Batcave when she’d tried her hardest to get him to accept her.
BlackGuilmon's Personality- BlackGuilmon isn’t like other Digimon as previously seen. He mainly keeps to himself, is dedicated to protecting Digimon who are below his level, and had preferred to work alone. He had heard about various Digimon around the world being partnered up with human Tamers but had no desire to be partnered with one of his own-he did have a level of respect for Digimon partnered with humans, however. Enter Barbara Gordon, and in her case this was déjà vu all over again: she had to prove to BlackGuilmon that she had what it takes to be her Tamer, and she wasn’t going to let the fact that he sounded like her mentor keep him from ensuring that she stayed ‘out of the loop.’ Eventually, BlackGuilmon would come to accept that he couldn’t work alone, and if he was to achieve his higher levels in order to protect his world, he would have to accept Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, as not only his Tamer, but his partner.
Barbara's Abilities- Barbara, as previously mentioned, had taken up gymnastics in the hopes of getting into the Olympics. The Commissioner hadn’t wanted to see his daughter throw away her dreams because of her friendship with Pamela Isley. When she first became Batgirl, Barbara had to train herself when it came to using Batarangs as her aim needed work-but when push came to shove, her aim had hit the mark and she’d been able to save her father from Poison Ivy’s clutches. She’s also quite adept with computers, as it’s shown not only in 2027 during the episode ‘Artifacts,’ under her alias of Oracle, but also during the Fourth and Fifth Seasons in other episodes too. She even commented to Robin that she doesn’t use the Batcomputer to play video games, unlike other sidekicks. It was because of Barbara’s agility in gymnastics that she was able to pilot the Batrobot, after having to figure out how it worked when it came to the retro thrusters and how to move her arms in tandem with the suit.
